Job Summary

The Department of University Information & Technology Services (UITS) at Columbus State University has an opening for a Web Developer. This position require a diverse set of skills, primarily utilizing web design and development. The successful candidate will serve as a web developer working with UITS and other departments on campus in designing and developing the Columbus State University website, enterprise web applications, and University chatbots. This position will report to the Manager of Systems and Web Development in UITS and may supervise student assistants in the development and maintenance of the website and enterprise web applications.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning, programming, designing, developing, directing, and upgrading the Columbus State University website and web applications; working closely with other departments on web development projects in support of university and departmental goals; serving as consultants to faculty and staff for the design, development, management and maintenance of web applications and web-related technologies; researching and recommending new/upcoming technology stacks that may help to support the university and departmental goals; planning, programming, designing, and developing chatbots to be used for University purposes; ensuring compliance with web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and usability guidelines and best practices; providing support for several third-party web applications, such as, Formstack, Docusign, and Qualtrics; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Computer Science or a related field; or a minimum of two years’ experience with web development; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated knowledge of web programming languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP; demonstrated experience with Apache/Nginx and Linux environments; demonstrated experience with MySQL/MariaDB or other database technologies; demonstrated knowledge of Git and Git platforms, particularly GitLab; demonstrated knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG 2.0/2.1); demonstrated knowledge of web usability guidelines and practices; familiarity with SEO and web analytics tools, particularly Google Analytics and/or Siteimprove; demonstrated knowledge of user interface/user experience (UI/UX) design trends and standards; the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, work independently, and multi-task effectively; the ability to be flexible and a willingness to accept change in priorities as necessary; and a strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with modern back-end development technology stacks such as PHP frameworks, particularly Laravel; experience with modern front-end development technology stacks such as JavaScript frameworks , particularly Angular JS and/or Vue.js; experience with Node.js and Express; experience utilizing continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines; experience with design, wireframing, and prototyping tools, such as, Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and/or Adobe In Vision; experience with human-computer interaction technologies, particularly Google Dialogflow; experience with online form/survey platforms, particularly Formstack and Qualtrics; and experience with digital signature platforms, particularly DocuSign are preferred.
