Occ Summary

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursing duties in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision of an RN/LPN.


Work Performed

Prepare patients, equipment an d supplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as requi red.Obtain and record patientdata for medical records noting and informi ngRN/LPN of information collected.Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients including,but not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making ,assisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elim ination;provide such additional care as required to meet the personal ne eds andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activities b yreinforcing teaching instructed byRN and/or physician as needed.Assistp hysician and nurses with physical examinations by helpingposition patien ts, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients.Take and recordv ital signs, record I&O, apply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas.Not e and report any changes in patient's condition.Turn and position patien ts, set up and feed patients as necessary,provide patients with freshdri nking water.Perform fingersticks forblood glucose testing, with appropr iatetraining.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation ofpati ents.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment a srequired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment asrequ ired.Participate in own professional development by maintaining required skills validation and attending educational offerings. Support thedevelo pment of other staff and formal learners.May also perform sterile dressi ng change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities, o ral/nasogastric feeding and urinarycatherizations/irrigation.Perform oth errelated duties incidental to work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Completion of Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the Nursing. North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC - approved Nurse Aide I competency test and completion of Level II Nurse Aide education programs approved by the North Carolina Board of High School diploma or equivalent required.

Listed as NA I with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. Listed as NA II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation, which typically takes place during the first week of employment.
