JOB SUMMARY
This position serves as the initial contact for the Adult Education learner and is responsible for appropriate intake, assessment, and goal development of learners. The Coordinator must be able to work with adults lacking a high school credential and immigrants lacking Basic English communication skills. This is a full-time 30 hours per week position with benefits. It reports to the Manager of Adult Education.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works as a team member with the Program Administrator, the MIS Specialist, and the IS to meet program goals and performance measures
- Ensures that the program implements an intake, assessment, and goal development system which documents all learner goals and literacy level assessments
- Trains program staff and instructors on assessment policy and data quality and performance
- Implements program’s managed enrollment process including scheduling, managing and documenting wait lists
- Promotes strategies to retain learners
- Advises students
- Orders, inventories, and ensures security of assessment materials
- Conducts or manages the implementation of orientation, intake, and assessment sessions for GED and ESOL students
- Administers or manages the implementation of assessments
- Develops and coordinates local procedures for assessment and placement of learners in appropriate level classes, including individuals with disabilities
- Communicates with learners and instructors/tutors regarding placement, progress, and attendance issues
- Identifies professional development needs for assessment and intake and coordinates activities to address those needs
- Refers learners to support services and/or community resources
- Assists with the development and execution of the program’s Data Quality Plan
- Attends state Intake/Assessment Specialist and professional development meetings, participates in technical assistance, and mentors IAS in other local programs upon request
- Other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Bachelor's degree
- Adult education teaching experience
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong technology and troubleshooting skills
- Experience administering standardized tests
- Experience delivering professional development/training
- Must be able to travel locally and be available to work evening hours, two to four nights per week (Monday – Thursday) most weeks to support evening students
- Must be positive, cooperative and supportive
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Knowledge of CASAS assessments and LACES data elements
- Counseling experience
- Master’s degree
- Minimum of one year of experience in an Adult Education and Family Literacy Services (AEFLA) funded adult education program
- Bilingual English/Spanish
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is normally sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
- Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings
- Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter
- Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms; use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic signals when driving. Travel to off-site locations. Work schedule will require a minimum of two nights per week from 5pm – 9pm.
SALARY:
This grant funded position will be placed on the 12-month grade 10 college salary scale. Actual salary placement based on qualifications and experience. Position includes an excellent fringe benefit package which can be found at:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS: The College pays one-half of reasonable travel expenses for the first visit and pays the entire cost of travel for the second visit. The College does not pay relocation expenses. However, following a one-year probationary period, year-to-year contracts are provided for this grant funded position.
