Job Description:


The Resident Director is responsible for facilitating a living and learning environment that is conducive to the personal development and academic achievement of all residents. This is a full time 12-month, live-in position with additional responsibilities in various areas falling under the Office of Residence Life.


Job Duties:


  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and cultural competence with the ability to work with and support diverse groups of students;
  • Serve as a primary contact for the assigned residence hall building, addressing and documenting behavioral issues with students as needed, as well as communicating student concerns to appropriate personnel;
  • Communicate regularly with residents through individual interaction and community meetings, making appropriate referrals to other resources as needed;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and cultural competence with the ability to work with and support diverse groups of students;
  • Assist students in understanding and adhering to COVID-19 guidelines, as well as the College's rules and regulations in the Housing Agreement and Student Code of Conduct through educational meetings and conversations.
    • Must be available for:
    • Bi-Weekly Residence Life Meetings;
    • Weekly One-One with supervisor;
    • Weekly check in with each resident by conducing Door to Door visits;
    • Monthly virtual Hall Meetings
  • Organize and coordinate social programs with the students following the Residence Life programming model;
  • Supervise Community Advisor Staff living in assigned residence halls;
  • Serve as a Hearing Officer for low level violations;
  • Attend all meetings, trainings and professional development sessions scheduled by the Director of Residence Life;
  • Manages all operational aspects of the assigned hall, including opening and closing, occupancy management, maintenance, health and safety inspections, and damage billing;
  • Assist in the coordinator of the Office of Residence Life large scale campus programming efforts;
  • Work with individual students or groups regarding personal issues and make appropriate referrals;
  • Participate in Community Advisor hiring, training and development efforts;
  • Assist with residential summer camps and conferences;
  • Other duties as assigned.




Requirements:


  1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred;
  2. Previous experience in residence life is preferred;
  3. Knowledge of issues pertaining to college life;
  4. Commitment and ability to create and maintain a diverse, multicultural community;
  5. Demonstrated experience in multicultural issues with a focus on education and training;
  6. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, intervention and crisis management skills;
  7. Must be computer literate;
  8. Must have a valid driver's license.

Compensation:


  • Unfurnished apartment and meal plan (when Dining Center is open);
  • College will pay for apartment utilities, including, cable, heating, water, electrical & local telephone service;
  • Resident Directors are afforded use of all College facilities (when available);

The Dean College Athletics Department is a Division III member of the NCAA and competes as a member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), and the USCAA and complies with all NCAA Division III Rules and Regulations.
