This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
This postdoctoral scholar will work on collaborative research projects involving Northern Arizona University and the U.S. Geological Survey, as well as other research collaborators from around the Colorado Plateau. This position will focus on research efforts to promote successful restoration and reclamation of highly disturbed lands in the western United States. Specific responsibilities include using a data-driven approach to link key reclamation practices applied following oil or gas development to reclamation outcomes, collating data, organizing workshops and other events, and leading the writing of a practical technical reference that could be used to inform management or policy decisions.
The position will involve:
- Compilation and synthesis of large, complex datasets and statistical analysis to identify significant relationships. Assist research team and act independently to plan, design and implement experimental, observational, and simulation modeling projects.Works independently as needed to establish priorities, set schedules, meet deadlines, and balance multiple simultaneous projects. Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.Operates specialized scientific equipment.Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.Effectively uses available technology to facilitate the success of the project.Liaisons with other NAU departments, outside collaborators, and others to ensure success of project.Engaged in fieldwork and writing of technical publications and reports.May supervise classified staff, graduate assistants, or student employees.May be responsible for training staff, graduate assistants, or student employees.
Requires a PhD in ecology, biology or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Relatively recent graduate or graduation by the time of appointment.
Experience with data-driven evaluation approaches
Knowledge of reclamation practices implemented following oil or gas development

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus and NAU-Fort Defiance as these campuses have on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

The budgeted salary amount is $52,000 - $60,000.
**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
Post-Doctoral Scholars are hired on a contract basis, renewable each fiscal year for a maximum of 4 renewals (5 years) according to terms of the Arizona Board of Regents' Conditions of Post-Doctoral Service.

New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Participation in NAU retirement plans is not available to Post-Doctoral Scholars.
