The BioDiscovery Institute delivers research solutions to underpin the utilization of biosystems for production of food/feed, polymers, construction materials, bioactive molecules, and biofuels. A full-time staff position as Scientific Lab Technician is open immediately in the Chapman lab, BioDiscovery Institute, University of North Texas. This person will execute experiments as directed by the lab supervisor in cooperation with other laboratory personnel. In addition, this individual will develop and maintain a log of research protocols and procedures and help to train others where necessary. This individual will serve as to point person for questions related to safe laboratory practices and will interface with lab manager to maintain accurate records of laboratory materials, supplies, personnel training and biosafety protocols. Experience with modern molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques is required. Excellent organizational and time management skills are desired qualities for the successful candidate. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a related discipline, and at least five years’ experience in a research laboratory. Bachelor’s Degree in related field and one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• General understanding of the field of science or engineering related to position.
• Knowledge of special equipment used in teaching laboratories and/or test instruments, repair equipment, tools and parts in use in the field.
• Ability to teach and/or supervise others through demonstration and verbal communication.
• Knowledge of scientific techniques, methods and procedures.
• Ability to locate and replace defective parts and troubleshoot technical equipment.
• Ability to prepare accurate assays/samples or perform arithmetical computations and maintain detailed records.
