Recently, UNT has established a Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing (CAAAM) with two-year support from the State of Texas legislature. The vision for CAAAM includes strengthening regional science and engineering research, development and innovation; education and workforce training in Additive Manufacturing (AM) Processes and lead disruptive technology development in support of US manufacturing prowess. The CAAAM is also being specifically leveraged for focused activities on education and workforce training in AM through establishment of its educational wing as Institute for Transformative Education in Additive Manufacturing (ITEAM). The mission of ITEAM is to create transformative educational opportunities that leverage research excellence supported through CAAAM.

Position Overview

The position primarily involves carrying out research, training, and education activities related to additive manufacturing (AM). These activities will include experimental and computational approaches. The experimental approach will be based on but not limited to materials processing and manufacturing using various types of additive manufacturing processes, pre and post AM characterization of materials/components for microstructural and functional properties, in-situ AM process diagnostics and material characterization and/or monitoring. The computational activities will include computational approach for additive manufacturing process design, monitoring, and control and modeling for material evolution. The skills desired for this job also include abilities to interpret experimental and computational results, organization of results, as well as developing appropriate presentation tools for effectively communicating these results. These activities will spread over the sub-areas relevant to AM such as fundamentals of AM, data science and analytics, cybersecurity, logistics & supply chain management that are identified as the thrusts areas within the Center for Agile & Adaptive Additive Manufacturing (CAAAM).

Minimum Qualification:
Ph.D. in engineering or physical science or any other field relevant to the AM thrust areas identified and listed above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires education and experience similar to an assistant professor in the department, usually an individual having just received the appropriate terminal or professional degree, with less than five years of relevant work experience including graduate level research experience or evidence of the ability to conduct research and publish or present results.
