The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. The NC State Sports Medicine Department is responsible for providing medical care for student-athletes with a vision of "Making a Difference”.

Serve as an Athletic Trainer within the Department of Athletics for Sports Medicine. The position is responsible for the care of student-athletes, to include prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of the injured student-athletes under the supervision of the team physician for assigned sport(s). Sport assignment(s) may be modified at the discretion of the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine. This position will allow the successful applicant to develop their academic knowledge and clinical abilities by gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of full-time staff members.

Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
- Assisting in operating and maintaining the athletic training facilities
- Ensuring proper use of equipment and facilities by the student-athletes
- Working with the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and the Team Physician(s) in providing comprehensive healthcare to student-athletes
- Referral to associated health care professionals when necessary
- Maintaining medical records on the student-athletes to include physical examinations and screenings, insurance information, injury evaluation, and treatment records
- Attending scheduled meetings, team practices, and events, including traveling with assigned team(s) and assisting with secondary coverage as needed
- Providing emergency care when appropriate
- Assisting with maintenance of athletic training room equipment
- Assisting with annual physical examinations and drug testing programs to the student-athletes
- Document services rendered consistent with best practices
- Follow all developed departmental policies and procedures

Work ScheduleVaries w/nights and weekends to be expectedOther Work/Responsibilities

- Mandate and perform administrative duties and tasks as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
- Monitor inventory of supplies for assigned athletic training room(s)
- Communicate with coaches regarding injured student-athletes
- Follow the NATA Code of Ethics
- Remain current on all state and national requirements for certification and licensure
- Agree to comply with NC State University, the ACC, NCAA bylaws, legislation, and mandates along with all regulatory agency statues
- Other duties as assigned

Other Graduate Assistantship Terms:
- Maintain a grade point average of 3.00 or higher
- Make satisfactory progress toward your degree; Satisfactory progress toward your degree is determined by the director of your graduate program
- Perform satisfactorily in your assigned responsibilities; Satisfactory performance of your duties is determined by the faculty member or program providing the assistantship

Minimum Experience/Education

- Bachelor’s degree required from CAATE accredited ATP

Department Required Skills

- Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC)
- Current ECC certification by the American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer Certification by the American Red Cross
- Current or eligible for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners within 30 days

Degree Programs and Requirements:
- Potential graduate assistants are encouraged to apply to any graduate program offered at North Carolina State University. Program choice should be discussed and approved by the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.
- In order to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship, the applicant must be admitted into the Graduate School in full graduate standing and be enrolled in the fall and spring semesters. Applications must also be in good academic standing (with a 3.00 grade point average or higher), unless granted an exception by the Graduate School.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

- Must be able to lift 30-60 pounds occasionally with or without a reasonable accommodation
- Computer competency
- Excellent interpersonal communication skill

Required License or Certification
