Princeton University

A position is open at the rank of Professional Specialist, Myhrvold Laboratory, Department of Molecular Biology. The Myhrvold Lab at Princeton University develops cutting-edge, CRISPR-based technologies to study RNA viral infection and RNA transcription, regulation, and localization. We are also developing CRISPR-based viral diagnostics and antiviral therapies with the aim of creating a rapid development platform for new viral diagnostics and therapies, in close collaboration with Pardis Sabeti's lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. The Myhrvold lab continues to advance CRISPR-based technologies such as SHERLOCK, CARMEN, CARVER, and SHINE. We have applied several of these technologies to aid in the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The successful candidate will join a highly interactive group, with strengths in bioengineering, genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry. The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop the next iteration of the CARMEN technology, a massively multiplexed approach for nucleic acid detection. Your work will be central to a major research project funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Experience with two or more of the following is a plus: CRISPR-Cas13; bioengineering; molecular biology, RNA biochemistry, nucleic acid detection, microscopy; or next-generation sequencing. This position will involve mentoring and training more junior lab members, so experience with mentoring is required. A Ph.D plus five years of relevant experience is required. This position is for one year with the possibility of renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and funding. To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, as well as name and contact information for three references. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
