Job Description

The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in African American History beginning fall 2021. We welcome applications from scholars in any period of African American History. We are especially interested in critical and innovative scholarship that focuses on but is not limited to racial justice.

TAMUCC is searching for two faculty members this year: one in the field of African American History and the second in the field of Mexican American History. Ideally, candidates who fill these positions will be able to contribute to the area's interest in the transnational movements of people and ideas, the creation of diasporic communities and struggles for equity.

The Department is committed to TAMU-CC's identity as a Hispanic-serving Institution that embraces diversity. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service that they can contribute to the diversity and mission of our university. The successful candidate will be expected to be able to teach US survey courses as part of the 3/3 teaching load, along with upper-level undergraduate courses and courses in our History M.A. program in the candidate's area of specialization.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in History or related field. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specialization within the 18th and/or 19th centuries.

TO APPLY: http://hr.tamucc.edu/Job_Opportunities/

All required documentation must be submitted to be considered for the position.

A completed application will include:

1. Cover letter

2. Statement of teaching philosophy and experience

3. Curriculum vitae

4. Three professional references including name, address, title, telephone number, and email addresses- including a current or previous supervisor

Letters of recommendation may be requested after review of applications, and a writing sample and sample course syllabi may be requested later in the process.

The deadline for applications is Monday, November 16, 2020.

Please address inquiries to: Dr. Glenn Tiller, Search Committee Chair, glenn.tiller@tamucc.edu.

All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution's verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution's procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.

Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Veterans/Disability Employer committed to diversity.
