This is a twelve month, 100% time appointment with the possibility of extension being subject to performance and budgetary approval. Anticipated start: December 2020 or until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:
This position focuses on the development of novel organic CEST-MRI agents for targeted imaging of cellular markers of cardiovascular and renal disease. This individual will use their strong skills in cardiac magnetic resonance physics, organic chemistry, NMR/EPR spectroscopy, pulse sequence programming, and analytical methods for assessing magnetic susceptibility to explore a novel area of CEST-MRI. The specific tasks include (i) the identification and NMR assessment of organic compounds with targeted affinity, (ii) the design of appropriate CEST-MRI acquisition methods to target these compounds, (iii) the completion of proof of principle experiments, (iv) and the ultimate application to pre-clinical models and control human subjects. Working closely with researchers on other MRI projects at UCB, the researcher is expected to publish peer-reviewed articles, patents and to present findings at national and international conferences.

Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a PhD degree program (or equivalent international degree) at the time of application.

    Additional Qualifications:
  • PhD or equivalent international degree by the start date.
  • No more than four years of post-degree research experience by the start date.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or biomolecular engineering.
  • Relevant experience in cardiac MR research.
  • Data analysis, signal processing, and programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C, LabView).
  • Expert in image processing.
  • Fluent in platform software development.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and debugging prototype hardware/software.
  • Published papers, manuscripts in preparation or under review.
