The Department of Chemistry at San José State University seeks qualified candidates for an Assistant Professor position. The department strives to provide broad access to the highest quality education in chemistry at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. Ph.D. in chemistry or equivalent is required, postdoctoral experience preferred. Strongly prefer research in analytical chemistry with applications to biomedical, nuclear, environmental or other fields that complement the current faculty in the department. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Excellence in research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is expected. The candidate will be teaching courses, including laboratory courses, in analytical chemistry (Chem 55, 55L, 155 and graduate courses) as well as selected courses in other complementary disciplines. Some teaching in general and/or introductory chemistry may be required. The candidate must be able to adapt their teaching methods to a variety of learning environments, including online instruction. The successful candidate will develop a robust research program engaging undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) students. Candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committee and other service assignments. Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
