Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, perform scientific examinations and clinical laboratory analyses for the diagnosis and treatment of disease within certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) laboratory. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: clinical management and staff.
This position typically will advise and counsel: clinical management and staff.
This position will supervise: NA

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Process and evaluate samples by performing routine, complex, or automated laboratory procedures or testing.

Job Duty 9 -
Communicate with professionals regarding laboratory equipment maintenance or other needs to ensure quality.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Duty 2 -
Determine acceptability of specimens for testing based on accepted clinical laboratory criteria.

Job Duty 3 -
Perform tests and records results. Perform studies on specimens and gather results, which may include; heating, filtering or titrating.

Job Duty 4 -
Document reactions, color changes, or formation of precipitates for laboratory reports, which provide data on the disease. Evaluate findings to identify and verify unusual or unexpected results.

Job Duty 5 -
Utilize laboratory equipment and ensures proper operating procedures are followed throughout laboratory practices. Perform preventative maintenance or testing and calibration of complex laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Job Duty 6 -
Review the work of Laboratory Assistants or Technicians, and provide training in routine procedures.

Job Duty 7 -
Conduct special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.

Job Duty 8 -
Develop and store laboratory slides to support analysis.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university

Other Required Qualifications
Certification in Clinical Genetics from American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) or Medical Technology from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Required Experience
Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory testing experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
First-hand knowledge of the KingFisher Flex and Echo 525 automated liquid handlers

Preferred Educational Qualifications
PhD degree in a science-related field from an accredited college or university

Preferred Experience
Demonstrated experience with genetic testing, including demonstrated experience with RNA purification and RT-QPCR

Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. Ability to work as part of a team.
