System Administrator III Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 202010016401 Full Time 8AM - 5PM $69,000 - $135,900 Position Information The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of California, Riverside is seeking a highly motivated and skilled technical staff member who will develop and maintain the infrastructure and services used to support undergraduate education in Computer Science. Minimum Requirements Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.
Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience using, deploying, configuring, and managing the following software and network services in a production environment: configuration management, version control, provisioning, network monitoring, centralized system logging, web server, SQL database server, NoSQL database server, host based UNIX firewall, DNS server, DHCP server, remote secure UNIX access, authentication, authorization, file service, network file systems, backups, time service, licensing, printing, Wake on LAN.
Thorough experience as a UNIX/Linux System Administrator, including extensive experience with CentOS Linux, Bash, Python, and configuration management and version control software for managing servers and desktops.
Experience with providing support for instructional laboratories. Experience with providing support for online courses.
Experience working with cloud services and vendors, such as AWS and Cloud9. Operating System Virtualization: VirtualBox. Containers: Singularity or Docker. Container Orchestration: Kubernetes. Programming Languages: C, C++ and Java. Instructional Support Software: gcc/g++, Unity, Xilinx ISE and Arduino IDE.
Knowledge of University of California Policies and Procedures regarding computing, communications, and computer usage
Experience using, deploying, configuring, and managing the following software and network services in a production environment: Ansible, Git, Cobbler, Nagios/Icinga, Rsyslog, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Apache, Nginx, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, iptables, ISC Bind, ISC DHCPD, SSH, X2Go, MIT Kerberos, LDAP, NFSv3, NFSv4, Samba, Group Policy, Rdiff-backup, NTP, FlexLM, CUPS, Wake on LAN, Kubernetes.
