Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program (CSP) is a premier adult learning program offering more than 600 courses, workshops, and seminars to more than 17,000 students annually. The mission of Stanford Continuing Studies is to share the rich educational resources of Stanford University with adult students living in the Bay Area and beyond.
Stanford Continuing Studies is seeking an Academic Technology Specialist. The Academic Technology Specialist is a central part of Stanford Continuing Studies' online learning initiative, and its effort to use educational technologies across its program. Stanford Continuing Studies attracts more than 16,000 enrollments annually and provides courses and workshops to students living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and beyond. The program has experienced significant growth in online classes and our on-campus instructors are increasingly interested in utilizing digital tools in their classes. The Educational Technology Specialist is a key part of that initiative.
The Academic Technology Specialist must have a strong understanding of online learning media, tools, and services, as well as educational technologies that can be used in the classroom. S/he should be able to think strategically about instructional technology and conceptualize and implement solutions. S/he should have a love of learning, and a passion for creating a premier learning environment for students and teachers.
The primary focus of this position is to ensure that Continuing Studies creates a top notch experience in its online courses, both in terms of the technology the program uses, and the level of support it provides to instructors and students.

Your responsibilities include:
- Manage the Zoom account. Act as primary liaison between Zoom and program; stay abreast of updates and communicate new features or processes to staff and instructors; assign licenses, monitor usage, conduct quarterly audits to update users and delete old recordings.
- Coordinate and support use of Zoom. Train staff and instructors; respond to help tickets; monitor class sessions and provide assistance as needed, coordinate Zoom hosts for sessions that need extra support (new instructors, classes with 50+ students); stay informed of best practices and implement accordingly.
- Provide support and direction for virtual events such as webinars. Coordinate with Marketing Director and/or Events Manager to cover logistics; attend event prep meetings and host large sessions as needed.
- Serve as the in-house expert for instructional videos. Work with supervisor to determine quarterly video production needs and be responsible for timely production and delivery of instructional videos.
- Responsible for all video assets. Ensure that all video is branded, closed captioned and embedded in the LMS prior to course launch.
- Contribute to the building of Canvas course shells quarterly. Serve as backup for LMS administration as required. During busy windows, assist instructors with the building and maintenance of their Canvas courses.
- Create and maintain tutorial videos and other training tools that allow instructors and students to be as self-sufficient as possible.
- Strategize and implement instructional technology refinements and add new features to the existing platform that will enhance the online learning experience; collaborate with the team on ongoing improvements; think strategically about the program's future online growth.
- Stay informed of instructional technology developments through lists, publications, and conferences. Evaluate, recommend, and implement new audio/video tools, software, techniques, and solutions that can improve learning and teaching, both online and in the classroom.
- Provide high-quality technical support to students, instructors, and staff working with our educational technology tools.
- Collaborate with other departments on campus, as needed. Stay current with University e-learning initiatives and information system/security standards.
- Ensure that Continuing Studies instructors can effectively incorporate educational technologies into their classroom teaching. If CSP courses are offered on campus, the ETS provides educational technology support and training to instructors as needed. S/he is available (on call) in evenings to assist with classroom technology.
To be successful in the position, you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of educational technologies and online learning platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and address technical issues arising from administrative, learning, teaching environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work calmly, collaboratively, professionally, and with attention to detail, and with a strong focus on student and instructor support.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to and work well within a team environment.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and under strict deadlines.
- Ability to direct own efforts while coordinating with others and to prioritize work and meet schedules.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience (three (3) years preferred) in technical consulting in university settings or academic research environments is preferred.
Continuing Studies offers courses on weeknights and on weekends. To ensure smooth operations during our busiest class times, the Academic Technology Specialist primarily works evening hours (1:00 to 9:00pm) and occasional weekends.
