PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:  The Assistant Football Coach is to specifically focus on a position area to be determined by the Head Coach, potentially including offensive line, wide receivers, running backs, special teams, tight ends, linebackers, defensive line, quarterbacks, etc. This includes coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties such as coordinating/planning practices, video analysis and instruction, and completing compliance information. This position supports all efforts to continue to attract the nation’s top football players to our Division II non-scholarship program.


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: 

Include the following but not limited to:

All department employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and SIAC rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Athletic Department).


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be assertive, friendly, cooperative, flexible, tactful, dependable and logical and work in a collaborative manner with multiple offices.
  • Must be able to deal with discretion in confidential and sensitive issues, problem solve and work independently.
  • Must be able to utilize the following programs: Colleague, Excel, Word, Outlook, Hudl, Front Rush etc.
  • Must have competent writing skills including excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Must possess strong customer service skills including the ability to accurately assess and handle phone calls and visitor requests with discretion and a positive attitude
  • Oversee the daily student-athlete recruiting operational and logistical processes for the Football team.
  • In conjunction with the Compliance team, ensure all team recruiting activities are in compliance with NCAA & SIAC regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize duties and be organized, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of situations, while maintaining the decorum of a representative of the college.
  • Must be able to anticipate and plan for cyclical activities
  • Ability to work in noise, heat, cold, odors, dirt, outdoor temperatures, snow, and difficult situations.
  • Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over sustained periods to complete job activities.
  • Ability to stand a minimum of 6 hours during the workday.
  • Ability to work some weekends, occasional holidays, and inclement weather.
  • Ability to repetitively lift, carry, and position objects weighting up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to repetitively push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance while kneeling; squatting; reaching above the head; reaching at the waist; reaching below the knees; and bending at the knees.
  • Ability to repetitively push and pull equipment (for example, football sleds, dummies and pads) a minimum of 10 yards without assistance.
  • Ability to climb a ladder or scaffolding to enter/exit a press box, get to a filming location or similar situations
  • OTHER DUTIES:  Perform other duties as assigned. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor's degree (emphasis in Sports Management, Athletic Coaching, Exercise Science, Strength and Conditioning or other related degree preferred);


    Licensing and Certifications


    NCAA Recruiting Certification within the first 90 days of employment.      


     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • Certified strength and conditional background
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Must have a familiarity with computer systems, good oral and written communication skills, strong organizational, management and supervisory skills. 
  • One to three years coaching experience and/or collegiate playing experience required; some collegiate coaching experience preferred.Demonstrated ability to motivate student-athletes athletically and academically.Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to NCAA and Ivy League rules.Demonstrated ability to recruit qualified student-athletes.Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game, and the ability to coach and motivate.Strong organizational; interpersonal; communication (verbal & written), and computer skills needed.Ability to write, draft and edit correspondence.The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background check satisfactory to Kentucky State University prior to commencing employment

    Kentucky State University shall admit students to the institution under selective admission standards to which exceed the minimum guidelines established by the Council on Higher Education, with only limited exceptions.     Degree Levels
    Selected associate and baccalaureate degree programs shall be oriented toward liberal studies and selected career opportunities related to state government services. Kentucky State University shall offer selected master's degree programs based on demonstrated need, with priority given to a public administration curriculum to meet the needs of state government.

    Strategic Directions/Program Priorities
    The University shall focus on liberal studies programming. Drawing upon its African-American heritage, the University will promote the values and methods of interdisciplinary and multicultural education in its liberal studies offerings. All students shall participate in common curricula that explore the liberal studies. Drawing upon the multicultural strengths of the University, emphasis shall be placed on preparing minority students for careers in education and in other selected professions including business, computer science, nursing, human services, and public services. These strategic priorities translate into a core of liberal arts baccalaureate degree programs, in addition to degree programs at the associate [A], baccalaureate [B], and master's [M] levels that may include the following: education [B]; business [B]; computer science [A,B]; nursing [A]; home economics [B]; human services [B]; and public administration [B,M].

    Enhancement of Instruction
    The University shall emphasize teaching. Meeting student needs shall be paramount.     Service and Research Functions
    Kentucky State University, as the 1890 land grant institution in the system, shall carry out its responsibilities under federal law and participate fully in appropriate U.S. Department of Agriculture programs, in accord with the mission of the University.

Curriculum development shall emphasize the transfer of credits form other institutions toward degree completion.
