Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Family Medicine at Brody School of Medicine was established in 1977 and has earned a national reputation for innovation and excellence in education, research, and patient care.

The Family Medicine Department has 45 faculty in six divisions and is part of a larger Health Sciences Campus with opportunities for collaboration with the School of Dental Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Allied Health Sciences. The Department is home to 36 Family Medicine residents, and fellows in Geriatrics, Palliative Care, and Sports Medicine.

The Brody School of Medicine’s mission emphasizes recruiting students into primary care, and the School is ranked second in the nation among allopathic programs for students entering Family Medicine. The Department of Family Medicine focuses on diversity among its current and future faculty.

Job Duties :

The Department seeks an innovative, enthusiastic champion to lead our Division of Medical Student Education. The Division Director will be expected to develop a vision for medical student programs within the Department, including our Family Medicine Interest Group, and to lead the Department’s 25 highly engaged faculty that are responsible for medical student education.

East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine has an additional mission to train underrepresented minorities and specifically aims students to primary care specialties. This commitment to primary care results in a large number of clinical and preclinical courses that are taught by family physicians; the Director of Medical Student Education is a critical position for both the Department and the Brody School of Medicine.

Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine all participate in a variety of teaching, clinical, and scholarly activities. Clinical activities included outpatient continuity care, precepting, and inpatient medicine. Interest in Obstetrics preferred. Vidant Medical Center serves as the teaching hospital of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and is located at an easy walking distance from the Family Medicine Building.

Minimum Education/Experience :

MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution required.

NC Medical License required.

Board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine required.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Clinical practice experience with OB skills

Demonstrated record of successful partnerships with local and state organizations

Willingness to actively engage with the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, as well as undergraduate pre-medical programs, pipeline programs, and the Office of Diversity and Equity at Brody School of Medicine.
