A research specialist position is open to a candidate who is interested in conducting scientific research in a basic science laboratory. A successful candidate will possess the ability to plan and execute experiments alone or in conjunction with others, optimize and modify procedures as needed, data collection, strict documentation, data analysis, laboratory maintenance, instrument calibration, ordering, and project management. The employee will need to demonstrate and model effective mental concentration, self-motivation, and troubleshooting skills. Work may also include training and supervision of staff, students, and others in performing specific techniques/experiments and on laboratory environmental and chemical safety. A science background and experience with western blotting, histology, immunohistochemistry, quantitative PCR, and primary cell culture are essential.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

BS or higher; minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working as a laboratory research technician.

License or Certification Required by the Department
