Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

- Receive and accession animal carcasses submitted for necropsy.
- Assist pathologists, residents, and veterinary students during necropsy
- Clean and maintain the necropsy facilities.
- Help take digital photographs of animals during necropsy as needed by the pathologist on duty.
- Retrieve necropsy tissues as directed by pathologists and distribute them to appropriate laboratory.
- Assist lab staff with disposal and incineration of carcasses

Position includes but not limited to carcass intake, post-necropsy cleaning/disinfection, assisting residents and pathologists with intra-lab sample delivery in a timely manner, disposing of carcasses, assisting with incineration/cremation, keeping laboratory stocked.

The job requires the ability to work in a biosafety level 2 lab. Student needs be comfortable performing tasks that the lab staff, pathologists, and residents my need while working. May include but not limited to the necropsy of animals as well as the disposal of bodies.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Current rabies vaccination or ability to obtain.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Acrobat), great organizational skills, self-motivated, good with numbers, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, will work with several different people.
