The UNC Center for Civil Rights works to dismantle structural racism by researching, identifying and challenging discriminatory policies and practices that have led to the exclusion of low-wealth, non-white families and the underdevelopment of the neighborhoods in which they live. The Center uses community-based, high-impact advocacy and outreach to secure social, economic and environmental justice for these communities. The Center focuses on elevating families and communities above the boundaries of race, class and place.

Through innovative research, scholarship and mentoring of young and future attorneys, the Center brings attention to injustices across North Carolina and the South and provides action models for advocates, scholars and lawyers across the country. The Center’s work focuses on education, environmental justice, equitable access to services, fair housing and community engagement.

Position Description

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Center for Civil Rights on all current and pending research projects. Under the direction of the Director and supervisor, this position will submit and process all grant proposals and other funding requests.

This position serves as the first point of contact and requires a professional manner that effectively and efficiently welcomes and creates a positive customer service experience for all visitors and people contacting the Center. This requires strong written and verbal communication skills, along with advanced demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel , Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Position is funded until December 31,2021.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, along with competent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. The selected candidate must also demonstrate superior interpersonal skills, attention to detail, coordination, leadership, problem-solving, confidentiality and organizational skills while being able to work hard in a fast-paced environment.

Selected candidate must have previous experience with a graduate or professional school’s administrative processes. The selected candidate must have the ability to work independently, pay careful attention to detail, possess strong organizational skills and possess the ability to meet deadlines. Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
