To assist in the operation of a program or multiple projects associated with the Dual Credit Program and Greater Texas Foundation (GTF) Scholars Program, exercising independent judgment and authority as required. Responsible for all phases of the program, including budget recommendations, program selection, staff supervision, recommendations for future planning, and innovation.

Description of Duties

•Assists in the coordination of the Dual Credit Program and related projects to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
•Coordinates support services for assigned K-12 school districts and campuses including outreach to students, parents, and K-12 personnel.
•Supervises and manages the day to day activities and personnel of the assigned program.
•Coordinates the student recruitment process for the Dual Credit Program by working with K-12 personnel on the application and enrollment process and providing technical support to assigned campuses as needed.
•Develops and supervises the implementation of multiple projects related to Dual Credit with assigned campuses.
•Facilitates the enrollment process for students at UTRGV’s two early college high schools (ECHS) including but not limited to document review and processing, the development and processing of semester course rosters, and other items as assigned.
•Participates in budget planning and is responsible for controlling expenditures in accordance with budget allocations for the program.
•Assists the Director in writing and developing proposals for funding grants.
•Coordinates the various activities of the Dual Credit Program and GTF Scholars Program.
•Coordinates long and short-term programs, including performing feasibility studies and estimating the cost of the program.
•Represents department in university and K-12-specific official functions including meetings, outreach events, and informational sessions.
•Reviews program records and reports of activities and recommends modifications to methods or procedures as required.
•Drafts brochures, letters, agendas, and contracts.
•May plan, develop, organize, and coordinate research and survey designs for continuous program improvement.
•Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the program’s mission and goals.
•Supervises and organizes seminars, conferences, and presentations.
•Provides appropriate reports as required for the project or program.
•Provides ongoing staff development, on site demonstrations and field-based experiences related to project or program.
•Conducts formal training or gives instruction regarding program policies and procedures.
•Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from the program.
•May coordinate and oversee tutorial, counseling, teaching, and/or training activities of the program.
•Responsible for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and mentoring of student employees.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university

Preferred Education

Education, Business, Social Sciences, or other related fields.

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Required Experience

•Three (3) years of experience performing closely related duties, including program planning/coordination or related experience in the appropriate field of the program, or
•Five (5) years of the required experience with an Associate Degree or 60 hours of College Credit, or
•Seven (7) years of the required experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with K-12 programming and partnership development.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Normal office or classroom or outside environment. Some travel and weekend work may be required. Particular program may require ability to drive a car for local or distant travel for consultation, training, meetings, or on site demonstrations. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and lift for retrieving/maintaining files and for setting up multimedia equipment. Must be able to move between buildings, offices and classrooms.

Other

This position is specific to the Dual Credit Program and involves working with multiple K-12 partners throughout the Rio Grande Valley. As a member of the Dual Credit Program team, the Program Coordinator assists the Director in various aspects of the program’s management and organization including as a liaison for multiple assigned K-12 school campuses. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will also assist the Director with oversite of the Greater Texas Foundation Scholars Program.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students and the public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Independent decision making and problem solving ability. Must demonstrate effective project promotion skills, and, the ability to develop and maintain strong working relations with internal and external agencies and entities.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
