Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelors in a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in higher education and specialized work is desirable. Three years of professional experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position
Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of the Academic Success Center with oversight from the Assistant Director.

Primary Responsibilities
Oversees the work of peer tutors in supplemental tutoring, learning teams, exam reviews, and other academic support services in coordination with the Assistant Directors. Supports staffing, scheduling, training and development, and supervision of peer tutors. Supports student staff in the Academic Success Center and in other Sam Houston State University (SHSU) campus locations with necessary resources for day-to-day student staff functions. Coordinates necessary room reservations and spaces. Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities. Prepares program budget requests. Prepares and oversees the preparation of tutor training and operational manuals. Maintains updated student academic support documents and handouts throughout the Academic Success Center. Coordinates communication between faculty and staff on program issues and problems in supplemental instruction and develops tutoring programs, and implement solutions. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates programs. Advertises to and informs students, faculty, and staff of academic support programs available through the Academic Success Center. Develops and recommends program guidelines, procedures, polices, rules, and regulations. Interprets policies, rules, and regulations and ensures they are followed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. Knowledge of College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certification requirements. May require work on the weekends and some evenings.
