Department Summary:

The Office of Sponsored Programs, a division of the UNTHSC Research Office, provides pre-award, post-award, and accounting services for the support of faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.

Position Overview:

The Office of Sponsored Programs, at the UNT Health Science Center, is seeking to hire a Post Award Manager to join our team.

The Post Award Manager will coordinate post-award activities in the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure compliance in our large, complex, and diverse portfolio of grants and contracts. Post-award activities include detailed review and reconciliation of projects budgets, including determination of allocability and allowability of expenditures, preparing and analyzing budget and financial reports, developing budget projections, approving and correcting project budgets to meet project goals and sponsor requirements, developing compliant and robust procedures to ensure compliance, and producing staff review metrics to ensure procedures are followed.

Working with the Director of Award Management, the Post Award Manager will develop strategies to optimize the grant and contract management process in order to support the organization’s evolving needs – particularly in light of increased grant compliance monitoring.

This position will be using discretion and independent judgment to make decisions that impact the compliance and successful completion of grant and contract objectives. This position will supervise Post-Award Analysts at all levels.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Possess knowledge of grant processes; including ability to review, administer and monitor grants for all sponsor requirements from award stage through close-out.

•Possess the ability to write and organize reports with skill in gathering required information.

•Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and organizational policies, procedures and compliance requirements.

•Knowledge of computer systems, and applications (PeopleSoft, Excel, Word, Outlook)

•Possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the skill and ability to supervise staff.

•Ability to exercise initiative, problem-solving skills and appropriate decision making process.

Manage large projects that span across multiple disciplines and faculty.

o:

Manage budget, administrative, reporting and compliance timelines through the lifecycle of the award. Advising the PI and project personnel at the beginning and during the period of the award regarding their obligations under the terms and conditions of the award. Informing the PI and unit administrator about the actions that will need to be taken to meet the commitments under the terms and conditions of the award. Advising faculty and staff regarding the sponsor’s and University’s prior approval requirements for changing aspects of the project.

o:

Coordinating and advising agencies of any special requirements related to sponsor notifications during the life of the award. Coordinating and negotiating changes with the sponsor and as necessary accepting or executing modifications to the award to effectuate these changes.

o:

Interpreting sponsor policies, University policies and federal and state regulations related to the terms and conditions of the award.

o:

Serving as a liaison between the principal investigator, project staff, administrative unit staff, and the sponsor.

o:

Monitoring and coordinating the submission of project reports required by the terms of the award and the administrative closeout of the project when the award expires. Assisting in the completion of all closeout procedures as necessary.

o:

Serve as primary audit liaison for internal and external audits and manage communication and status updates.
