The Department of Clinical Sciences is dedicated to excellence in educating and training veterinarians and comparative biomedical scientists, furthering health care and wellness through discovery and clinical research, providing outstanding and compassionate medical care to a diverse range of animal patients, effectively engaging the animal-owning public, government and industry partners, and providing leadership in integrating biomedical sciences to advance One Health.

North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinarian scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems.

With over seventeen clinical services staffed by board-certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH) is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care.

Each year, over 30,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from the CVM, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.

Essential Job Duties

The candidate will work with two other dermatologists to provide effective patient care and valued learning experiences for veterinary students, residents, graduate students, and veterinary practitioners. The faculty member will also participate in clinical responsibilities of the Dermatology service in the NC State Veterinary Hospital; including organizing and supervising daily activities of students, staff and house officers as well as patient care.

The chosen candidate is expected to participate in continuing education, public relations programs, and committees in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The person in this role is expected to be a productive, collegial, and active member of the Dermatology Service.

Other Responsibilities

For candidates desiring a tenure/tenure track appointment, development and funding of an independent research program is required as well as active collaboration with other members of the NC State’s Comparative Medicine Institute.

Minimum Experience and Education

The position requires a DVM (or equivalent degree) and eligibility for veterinary licensure (or
faculty certification) in North Carolina. As all ACVD residency programs must be under the direct supervision of a Diplomate of the ACVD, European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD) or Fellow of the Dermatology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (DCANZCVS), the position also requires completion of a residency approved by these colleges.

Preferred Qualifications

Diplomate status in the American or European Colleges of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD or ECVD) is preferred. Non-boarded applicants will be expected to pass the board-certifying exam within one year of hire. A related PhD, or PhD candidate status (in additional to the required DVM or equivalent degree) is preferred for candidates interested in a tenure track position.
