The Coastal Carolina University LIFE program seeks a dynamic individual for the time limited with benefits position of Internship Instructor, reporting to the Director of the LIFE Program. The Internship Instructor will be responsible for providing instruction and support for LIFE Students participating in full-time internships with an off-campus host business.
Duties include, but are not limited to: develop Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) based on individual preferences and skills; provide leadership and coordinator to the on-site Project SEARCH Program; recruit new student interns for the program including: marketing to local schools and agencies including information sessions for families, host business, schools and agencies, customizing application to meet local needs, determining recruitment timeline, working with selection committee to select interns; coordinate eligibility for local and state agencies to provide a seamless system of support before, during and at the conclusion of the Project SEARCH Program; provide instruction for Project SEARCH Interns; coordinate employment planning meetings to discuss feedback to all team members; performs skills training duties to assist with skills acquisition and problem solving; meets daily with skills trainers to discuss internships; develop IEP and transition goals for new high school students and creates “career plan” based on preferences and skills; provide exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and a valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate for secondary special education is required. The preferred candidate will have a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in special education and experience working with young adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in both high school and post-secondary settings.
