Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Police Support Services Manager, the Property and Evidence Technician receives, records, preserves, releases and/or disposes of property, evidence or supplies within the judicial process and maintains inventory procedures as stipulated by state and federal laws and regulations. This is a non-sworn position within the University Police Department that is responsible for performing non-emergency, law enforcement, support staff duties.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Education and Experience

Entry to the first level within this classification requires high school level reading and writing abilities and possession of a California Driver’s License. The nature of the duties may also require successful completion of a background check, physical and psychological exam and/or the ability to attend Police Officers Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities. Knowledge of and the ability to learn how to use the applicable public safety related equipment and systems are essential.

High school diploma or equivalent and three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a police property and evidence unit
  • Completion of a police property and evidence training course

Specialized Skills

  • The position also requires both near and far vision when operating assigned equipment and using a computer screen
  • Acute hearing is required in the office as well as other remote locations
  • Must be willing to work in a warehouse environment and wear a uniform or PPE gear

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,027 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,790 - $5,049 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
