Responsible for effective leadership and support of a large and complex service organization that has asset responsibility for the Columbia campus buildings and grounds. This includes but is not limited to: Building Maintenance Services; Custodial Services; Landscaping Services; Waste Management Services, Energy Plant Operations, Campus Energy Management, Small Business Contract Management, In-house Remodeling, a Facilities Work Management Center, Deferred Maintenance/Capital Renewal Management and all associated resources.

This position directly reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

A minimum of 10 years experience in a large facilities management or service organization with at least 200 or more employees or contractors. A Bachelor’s degree required in engineering, management, facilities management, or a related field. Experience managing and developing systematic operating procedures employing the use of technology in the work place. Experience managing and developing organizational accountability mechanisms to ensure work outcomes. Deep knowledge of accounting and budgeting systems that support facilities management. Experience and knowledge of how to create organizational visibility through both management reporting and budget reporting. A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in engineering, facilities management, business or related field. Twenty years of experience leading a large and complex organization in Facilities Management and/or in a research university setting. At least five years experience in a state organization, college or university setting. Extensive experience managing multiple energy facilities and large campus distribution systems for steam, chilled water and electric. Extensive knowledge of deferred maintenance planning and programming as well as deep project management experience. A strong ability to work effectively with diverse groups of employees and campus constituents. Excellent communication skills and problem solving skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of key organizational units to include energy management, plant operations, landscaping, construction, safety codes, management reporting, and facility maintenance practices. Must have knowledge of software applications in the workplace, and effective organizational leadership practices. Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets effectively. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of campus leadership, staff and the public. The ability to problem solve multiple and complex issues in the workplace at the same time. Ability to inspire others to act consistent with organizational goals, priorities, and plans. Familiar with emergency management protocols and NIMS emergency management procedures.
