The position will serve as the project coordinator for the Disparities Elimination through Coordinated Interventions to Prevent and Control Heart and Lung Disease Risk (DECIPHeR) Coordinating Center (CC) based at UNC Chapel Hill. The CC will serve as the hub of multi-site clinical trials implementing studies to reduce or eliminate disparities in heart and lung disease. The purpose of the CC is to promote collaboration and exchange of scientific information among institutions, foster communication, facilitate the translation of successful interventions into clinical practice and community programs, and ensure excellence in study design and analysis.
The CC will not recruit, enroll or have direct contact with study participants. Collaborating Implementation Research Centers (IRC) located around the country will perform those roles.
More specifically, the CC will: facilitate the development and collection of common measures; establish and maintain a computer system needed for data transfer and storage of measures; facilitate data transfer and pooling of data; provide support for analysis of data for manuscripts; compile protocols and other IRB documents; plan, arrange and support DSMB and Steering Committee meetings; facilitate the sharing of data, provide dissemination of results, maintain a website and email communication system for distribution of study documents, scientific information, forms and information; facilitate the submission of manuscripts; serve as a resource for T4 educational opportunities; conduct and facilitate yearly training workshops and regular webinars; provide information about the studies to the public; participate in scientific discussions and implementation of the studies; and develop comprehensive metrics for evaluating the program.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Full knowledge of social/clinical research principles, study design, and methods of data/information collection used to independently manage projects or programs. Knowledge of information technology to analyze and report data/information. Ability to understand and interpret scientific literature pertinent to nutrition and obesity.
Ability to plan work to meet objectives and deadlines. Ability to assess the needs of the project/program and make changes in process, work flow and/or assignments. Ability to lead multiple, concurrent assignments for a multi-faceted complex project. Ability to follow established guidelines for assessing compliance with protocol and manuals of procedures and ability to suggest possible ways to improve the monitoring process. Ability to write comprehensive reports and summaries of scientific literature in nutrition and obesity. Ability to collaborate with data management personnel and other investigators on creation of protocol for monitoring data transfer to the RCU.
Ability to plan and support study wide meetings. Able to collect, monitor and manage qualitative and quantitative data as required by research or program protocols and maintain quality control and assurance. Able to use Excel, SAS, or other statistical analysis software to collect, store and organize data. Able to perform data cleaning (reviewing it for accuracy, integrity, and evaluating estimates for appropriateness, reasonableness, and validity), and to report or summarize trends in data/information. Able to prepare documentation describing estimation procedures and interpreting results.
Ability to lead exchange of research information in a professional and collegial manner. Ability to contribute to preparation and presentation of publications, reports, or policies. Ability to independently provide consultation to clients or others related to the specific project/program. Ability to develop and/or create informational products.
Ability to train others in the performance of specialized data collection and analysis methodologies and data/information analysis tools. Ability to document research methodologies and results in reports and/or publications. Ability to train others in procedures.
Candidates must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills and final candidates may be required to submit a sample of professional writing or to demonstrate professional writing during the interview process. Candidates must have exceptional organizational skills, attendance to details and ability to multi-task. In addition, candidates must demonstrate outstanding skills with desktop software (including Excel and Powerpoint).Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in public health, health behavior, communication, exercise science, nutrition, psychology, biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology or related field, preferred. A minimum of two years work experience is preferred.
