Job Summary:The School of Information Science (SIS) in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky (UK) invites applications for a Lecturer with an anticipated start date of Aug. 16, 2021.
Qualifications/Responsibilities:
This position teaches courses in the CIS sequence (CIS 110/111/112 and 300). These courses make up the UK Core requirement for Composition & Communication, and cover oral, written, visual, and digital communication. Candidates must hold an earned M.A. in Communication or a related field by the start date. Past teaching experience is required.
This nine-month faculty appointment is renewable based on performance and needs of the unit. Candidates will be expected to teach four classes per term, with the potential to earn additional compensation for summer teaching as available.
About the School:
The School of Information Science includes the Instructional Communication and Research group, which teaches UK Core courses in multi-modal communication to incoming students. The School of Information Science at UK offers two online master’s degrees, one in library science and a second in information communication technology, an undergraduate major in information communication technology (including an online degree completion component), and an online minor in information studies. The library science program, and specifically the program in health information, are both recognized nationally.
About the College:
The College of Communication and Information, a member of the iSchools consortium, is composed of two schools (The School of Journalism and Media, School of Information Science), two departments (Department of Communication, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication) and an interdisciplinary graduate program. Nearly 1,700 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students are led by more than 80 full-time faculty, who also teach in the University’s core curriculum and serve students pursuing minors and certificates in the College. The College also houses UK’s independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the defending national championship Intercollegiate Debate Team.

Research
In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts.
