The Visiting Project Coordinator will will manage and execute the academic programs and grant initiatives for the Russian, E. European, and Eurasian Center. This position will also provide shared service to the grant management in the Illinois Global Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching, Program and Curriculum Development, and Advising

• Teaching: Teach one graduate or undergraduate REEES course per year.
• Program & Curriculum Development and Advising: Develop the new dual MA/MS program in REEES/LIS, including recruiting and advising students, developing advising materials, liaising with the LIS program and iSchool, and creating program promotional materials; coordinating REEEC’s study abroad programs, including developing new initiatives, recruitment for language courses and REEES academic programs; promotes study abroad programs and advises students, and acts as a liaison with other Study Abroad units on campus.
• FLAS Coordination: Provides FLAS fellowship program and coordination support. Including assisting with publicity, advising FLAS applicants and fellows, preparing FLAS applications for committee review, working with the Associate Director to advise and obtain approvals for Summer fellowships overseas; and negotiating contracts with international language programs.
• Redesign recruitment materials for the REEES academic programs (B.A., Minor, M.A., REEES Graduate Minor, and Balkan Studies Graduate Minor, and the joint REEES M.A./M.S. LIS). Consult REEEC Associate, LAS and IGI as needed.
• Works with the Outreach GA to promote programs and events.
• Hire, train, and supervise G.A., R.A., and Grad hourlies as they relate to the duties and courses listed above.

Shared Service Grant Administration, Management, and Writing

• Interpret and provide guidance regarding agency and sponsor policies and regulations used by principal investigators within the Unit. Provides guidance of research compliance regulations including those contained within Uniform Guidance (UG).
• Serve as Unit contact to Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA). Attend SPA courses, workshops, quarterly meetings, and annual retreat. Develop tools for tracking and managing financial data, specifically to improve reporting and reconciliation.
• Prepare grant reports (including organizing data, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis on results and products, preparing quarterly and biannual reports), seek out new opportunities and develop proposals to benefit REEEC. Coordinate with the Director and Associate Director as needed.
• Works with Centers and Programs to manage and promote the initiatives, including CMS initiative (course development grants, programming, and academic support) and grant funded programming; manages the grant budget lines related to these activities; can allocate funds for these initiatives; prepare data, results, and reports for grant reports.
• Work with IGI Accounting Associate to request new fund and program codes as needed.
• Monitor and evaluate project and grant expenses for appropriateness. Work with the Accounting Associate to prepare various transfers as needed. Monitor the financial position of all accounts within the portfolio and completion of internal reporting requirements. Examine financial statements of grants and contract accounts for accuracy and conformance to agency guidelines. Keep current with monthly reconciliation to Banner. Run Eddie reports.
• In coordination with the IGI Sr Bus Op Mgr and HR Associate, review principal investigator effort commitments and ensure that effort has been recorded accurately.
• Assists the Centers and Programs with reporting (organizing data, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis on results and products, preparing quarterly and biannual reports) and advise the Units in the development of new proposals.
• Work with principal investigators to track budget revisions, subcontract invoices, purchase orders, and any other required supporting documents. Assist principal investigators in preparing necessary progress reports, financial status reports and close out reports. Close grant accounts promptly upon expiration.
• Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by the IGI Executive Director or Sr Bus Op Mgr. Serve as a resource for information regarding assigned grants accounts.
• Assist principal investigators with semi-annual expenditure confirmations.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in a field related to Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Experience with area studies and/or federally funded National Resource Centers (NRCs); university teaching experience; experience working with the Slavic Reference Service and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Collection in the University Library or similar databases; archival research; experience with writing, managing and overseeing, and/or administering grant proposals; personal experience with international study, living, working and/or travel. Experience with institutions abroad, such as, but not limited to, embassies, businesses and universities. Experience working with international students and scholars.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in a field related to Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Experience working within restrictions and requirements of Department of Education Title VI and Department of State Title VIII grants. Experience with any of the following: Summer Research Lab, REEEC programming, and Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) awards or similar programs. Experience in programming and hosting events; experience working with or for international organizations (NGOs, study abroad programs, universities, museums, and others); active research and publication profile. Experience with Banner, EDDIE, My UI Financials preferred. Experience working with international students, institutions, and or constituents in a higher education context.

A successful candidate will have: Working knowledge of PC’s, software packages, and University systems. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Adobe programs, Wordpress, Webtools, and ATLAS Formbuilder (or similar database used at another institution). Ability to create, manipulate, and analyze data sets for grant reporting; ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data; familiarity with current events in the region; proficiency in Russian or another language of the region; familiarity with campus units and academic programs is helpful. Ability to gather facts and apply this knowledge to solve complex problems. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment. Accuracy and consistent attention to detail. Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines. Demonstrated ability and commitment to working with culturally diverse groups. Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Skill in effective oral and written communication. SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a visiting, full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12 month service basis. Position my become regular at a later date. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
