Open Rank Educator Track Faculty of Jazz Saxophone - Studio Music and Jazz

The University of Miami Frost School of Music is now accepting applications for a Full-Time Open Rank Educator Track Faculty of Jazz Saxophone in our Studio Music and Jazz Department, beginning in the Fall 2021 term. The salary is competitive, and rank of position will be commensurate with experience and education of the candidate. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment and an active career as an artist/performer. Preferred candidates will have significant teaching experience at the university/conservatory level. Expertise in recording arts and digital technology is desired.

Principal duties include direction and teaching in the Jazz Saxophone studio, ensemble coaching and/or teaching other jazz related courses such as jazz composition/arranging, improvisation, Latin Jazz, jazz history, etc. Duties also include participation in auditions, faculty committees, student advising and recruiting activities. Required qualifications:

  • Substantive national and/or international credits as an artist/performer and demonstrated expertise as a saxophonist/improviser.
  • Experience teaching a saxophone studio and coaching ensembles with a focus on jazz, among other genres.
  • Proficiency with Digital Audio Workstations such as Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase and with live audio engineering techniques.
  • Expertise with either Finale and/or Sibelius notation software.
  • Experience teaching non-traditional music students.
  • Masters degree in music required, doctoral degree preferred. However, candidates with exceptional professional and/or academic credentials will also be considered.

Desired qualifications:

  • Proficiency in jazz piano and jazz harmony. Demonstrated excellence as a composer and/or arranger. Experience in performing and teaching woodwind doubles.
  • Experience teaching in a university music school or conservatory context.
