Applications are now being accepted for a grant funded restricted 10-month position of Student Success Advisor, Nursing Education at San Diego City College.
One of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and vocational offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. In addition, applicants to this recruitment may be used to fill identical vacancies that may occur during the academic year.
The Student Success Advisor, Department of Nursing Education, reports to the Dean, School of Engineering and Technology: Mathematics, Science, and Nursing via the Associate Dean/Director of Nursing Education. The incumbent will be expected to present the Learning Strategies for Nursing Student Success (NRSE 92) in the classroom and to maintain office hours for student advisement and counseling, and participate in faculty and department meetings.
Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited:
1. Assisting the Associate Dean of Nursing with the department reports; AND
2. Assisting with clinical placements and tracking of students’ immunization; AND
3. Administering/proctoring entrance exams, student risk assessment, development, and implementation of remediation strategies assisting with curriculum design and evaluation, program review, accreditation, and participating with other college faculty on designated academic committees; AND
4. Coordinate and present at quarterly informational workshops for students on Nursing and Allied Health professions, helping to organize New Student Orientation and presenting to new students on the Student Success program:
- Meet with all students, conduct a skills assessment, and create an individualized plan for each student to increase student success.
- Provide on-going monitoring of student progress and partner with students who are at risk and faculty to set goals that help the students overcome challenges.
- Participate in faculty meetings and collaborate with other staff to achieve the objectives of the work plan.
- Moderate focus groups, organize high school tours, facilitate a mentoring program, and network with RN-BSN/RN-MSN programs and employers for students.
- Collaborate with the San Diego City College Outreach Team, organize job fairs, alumni activities, and other activities as needed.
Master’s in nursing,
Bachelor’s in nursing
Master’s in health education or health science,
OR the equivalent,
OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.
1. Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution, AND
2. Eligibility for or possession of a current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California; AND,
3. Completion of at least one year’s experience teaching courses related to nursing OR a course that included practice in teaching nursing; AND
4. At least one year’s continuous full-time experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct client care in an accredited hospital or academic setting within the last five (5) years.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
1. The ability to make effective classroom presentations by establishing strategies for pre-nursing students to be successful in the nursing program, problem-solving skills, and communication strategies.
2. The ability to use innovative student retention strategies and apply technology to enhance and support student learning.
3. The ability to use technology in day-to-day teaching activities, including Microsoft Office®, Internet-based applications, participation in scholarly activities designed to enhance professional growth, participation in professional organizations, and/or community activities.
4. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
work collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators, and clerical staff, including peer evaluators.
5. Experience and/or knowledge in working with students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

This is a restricted position funded by a NOVA Grant-Nursing Enrollment Growth Grant from the U.S. Department of Education through 06/20/2021. Continuance of this position is based upon continual funding through the NOVA Grant-Nursing Enrollment Growth Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Class 1, Step A - Class 6, Step C ($5,783.69 - $7,793.19) per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty Tenured- Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule
Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer-paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011).
