The Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning (LAEP) and the Department of City & Regional Planning are two of three academic departments in the College of Environmental Design. Both confer undergraduate and graduate degrees. Together, the departments have 30 ladder-rank faculty, 2 adjunct professor, multiple lecturers, and 21 emeritus professors. Departmental staff is comprised of both administrative and offsite Blake Garden staff. Staff work collaboratively with other CED departments and closely with the Office of the Registrar, Summer Sessions, Graduate Division and other central campus departments.
As highest ranking non-academic officer, this position manages the full general operations of the Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning (LAEP) and the Department of City & Regional Planning (DcRP) at the College of Environmental Design. The departmental manager reports to the Chair of the department with dotted line reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance & Administration. S/he is a member of CED's executive team of Deans, Chairs and Departmental Managers.
Administrative services include activities in finance and human resources, as well as IT, facilities, and student services. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of a multi-disciplinary department through subordinate management staff. Leads and manages all operations in support of the teaching programs in the department, and develops goals and plans for administrative, academic, instructional and outreach programs. The manager is responsible for short- and long-range management of fiscal resources, academic program management, academic personnel, career and part-time staff, and physical resources, including information and classroom technology. The manager supervises all department staff, and oversees all administrative and service activities for the entire Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning.
35% Manages, plans, administers, coordinates and oversees the entire range and all aspects of
administrative and business operations for the LAEP & DCRP departments. Administrative services include
all of the following functions:
35% Maintains integrity of the organizational departments through management, supervision and oversight of staff, including hiring, assigning duties and managing workflow, and reviewing work. Trains and directs staff, conducts performance evaluations and takes disciplinary actions.
10% Serves as key administrative officer for units' functional programs, oversees analysis and policy development for issues and processes, including budget, financial and other administrative and business and academic functions.
10% Performs strategic planning for all aspects of the departments. Formulates policies and guidelines to carry out the departments' mission for faculty and students. Develops, modifies and executes campus policies which affect immediate operations.
10% Interacts with higher-level management on controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other departmental, college or campus personnel. Interacts with higher-level management on matters concerning several functional areas, and/or customers.
As a member of CEDs Executive Team of Deans, Chairs and Managers, manages, evaluates, and makes recommendations for college-wide planning in the areas of financial management, development activities, academic programs, academic and staff personnel, facilities, and information and classroom technology.

Designated salary for this position is $75,400 - $90,000. However; starting salary is commensurate with experience.
