The General Liability (GL) Program Manager reports to the Director of Insurance & Risk Management and develops and implements programs that reduce the financial liability to the University arising from claims associated with General Liability (GL), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Property and Automobile (Auto) claims. The Manager analyzes claims liabilities at a campus-wide level, develops, creates and coordinates loss prevention, loss reduction and claim resolution strategies including alternative solutions.
Incumbent is in a highly visible position requiring not only excellent technical knowledge but also skills in leadership, management and program innovations to lead team members and the campus in reducing operational risk. Goals are reached in part by establishing relationships with diverse campus partners including the departments, Staff Diversity & Compliance, Employee and Labor Relations, Campus Human Resources, Fleet and Transportation Services, the Office of Legal Affairs, defense attorneys, OGC and the University's Third-Party Claims Administrator.
The incumbent is responsible for the smooth daily delivery of customer service in all facets of the GL, EPL, Property and Auto programs including timely disposition of claims, small claims court actions, and lawsuits. Incumbent is responsible for maintaining ongoing, close interaction with campus partners to generate initiatives to reduce GL, EPL, Auto and property risk through partnerships. Creates programs and promotes the use of Be Smart About Safety funds.
The GL Manager advises campus departments and professional schools; manages the Campus Business Automobile, General Liability and Employment Practices Liability Self-Insured Programs; identifies areas of high exposure to civil liability and unique liability exposures; designs and conducts in-services training for campus stakeholders; assists the Campus and OGC and the University's outside legal counsel in investigation and discovery in claims and lawsuits; edits and reviews discovery requests and responses; provides claims expertise in evaluations of claims/lawsuit exposures; implements and administers Campus claim deductibles and collections; consults with Campus departments on vendor, contractor, and consultant insurance; drafts modifications of agreements including waivers of insurance; analyzes and reviews Campus business contracts for appropriate insurance and indemnification provisions; guides prevention and mitigation programs and retrospective litigation reviews; prepares biannual litigation reports; makes recommendations to regarding levels of insurance and coverage for Capitol projects; assures website accuracy; provides input to the Director in the development and revision of the IRM Strategic Plan and the yearly IRM operational budget.
