Job Description Summary
This position supports the operations of the Biospecimen Lab for the Abramson Cancer Center Clinical Research Unit, under the direction of the Biospecimen Lab Manager.

Job Description

The primary responsibility of biospecimen coordinators is to process and ship specimens for clinical research. This includes blood, urine, bone marrow, biopsy tissue, and other specimen types. Biospecimen coordinators are also responsible for research kit management duties: prepping research kits for study visits, receiving and organizing study kits and lab supplies, creating kit inventory records in the LIMS system (LabVantage), recycling expired kits. Must keep complete and up-to-date records of sample processing and shipping by using Excel and LabVantage. Should have enough background in biology and/or medicine to use basic lab equipment, follow laboratory safety principles, understand sample processing requirements by reading lab manuals, and understand the importance of research specimens to the clinical studies for which they are collected. Professional communication skills are necessary to keep team-mates and research groups informed about specimen status and any issues that arise; must be comfortable using multiple modes of communication and switching between them when needed (email, phone, text, and in-person). A successful candidate will be energetic, team-oriented, meticulous, and enthusiastic about clinical research. Position contingent upon funding.

Qualifications
High School Diploma and 5 years of experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. B.A. or Associate's degree in Biology or related field preferred

Typically sitting at desk or table, standing, walking. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs.
