Vice President, Academic Affairs and Online Learning – College Wide

Who You Are

As the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Online Learning, you will lead the continued development of FRCC’s outstanding online learning department, ensuring teaching excellence, high academic quality, and excellent student support. You will oversee Academic Services, including curriculum, catalog, and assessment of academic achievement and several other college-wide academic policy and support areas. In this position, you will help shape statewide policy and practice as the primary academic liaison with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE).

SALARY: $125,000 to $135,000 annually

PRIMARY DUTIES:

As a member of the President’s Cabinet, collaborate with the President and other Cabinet members to set the vision for the college, design and implement strategic initiatives, set annual college goals, and bring a college-wide focus to initiatives and activities.

Serve as the instructional representative to the Colorado Community College system and to the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Gather information and needs from FRCC leadership and faculty, represent FRCC needs, and regularly communicate critical information, decisions and policy changes back to FRCC leadership and faculty.

Lead the continued development of FRCC’s online learning department, ensuring high academic quality, excellent student support and a focus on equity and inclusive excellence. Establish a vision for how to best grow and develop online learning and college-wide online programs at FRCC within the college’s one college concept.

Oversee support and training for the online learning management system and related educational technology (D2L, Yuja, Evaluation Kit, etc.) for faculty and staff throughout the college. Collaborate with campus leadership and faculty on incorporating online elements in other teaching modalities (hybrid, real-time remote, etc.)

Oversee the college’s assessment of academic achievement, ensuring that the work supports student learning, creates actionable outcomes and meets Higher Learning Commission requirements. Collaborate closely with faculty leaders and campus deans in implementing and revising the assessment plan. As the chief curriculum and academic policy officer for the college, lead and manage key college academic support functions, including instructor credentialing, catalog and schedule production, curriculum and program approval, and Perkins grant allocations.

Serve as the cabinet liaison to the instructional dean’s council, the college-wide chair council, and the faculty affairs council.

Work collaboratively with the Student Affairs Council and the VP of Enrollment Services and Student Success (VPESSS) to develop policies and practices that advance student success and equity. Work closely with the VPESSS to send a consistent FRCC message at CCCS meetings.

Provide regular updates to key constituents in the college on key federal, state, and system level initiatives that impact academic affairs at FRCC

Provide leadership and support to key college-wide academic committees, including, but not limited to the curriculum committee, the faculty evaluation committee and the faculty affairs council.

Lead or provide guidance for college-wide academic projects that address key college academic policies and practices. Examples might include reviewing and revising faculty evaluations; updating reassignment time procedures; implementing next steps in guided pathways.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Communication and Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate constantly with CCCS staff, academic leaders from other CCCS colleges, and FRCC leadership. Strategically advance FRCC interests at the system and work to ensure the success of all system colleges. Work closely with campus VPs and deans to implement system policy and coordinate online learning staffing. Work collaboratively with VP ESSS to communicate instruction priorities to student affairs.

Online Learning Leadership and Vision: Lead efforts to develop a college-wide vision for online learning, set and achieve goals and manage operations, including online programs and staffing. Commitment to Equity and Inclusion: Work with Cabinet to establish programs to support equity in student outcomes; champion equity in online learning outcomes through programming; and collaborate with Human Resources to develop increased diversity in staff and faculty.

Commitment to Teaching Excellence and Student Learning: Promote teaching excellence in many settings, including continued professional development for online faculty and instructors, coordination of the college-wide teaching excellence council.

People Leadership and Team Building: Commit to transparency and dialog with college constituents. Hire appropriate staff, set staff goals, build teams that collaborate, and enhance a campus culture that promotes student success through recognition, transparent communication, and engaged listening.

Clear and persuasive written and oral communication: Provide regular written updates to online and academic services staff; present at campus in-services, community events, and to college-wide project teams and Cabinet. Provide interviews with the press.

Planning and Budgeting: Collaborate to develop college annual strategic goals and annual department plans, including program development plans. Create and monitor yearly budget.

Project Management: Lead online learning, academic services, and college-wide project teams for program development and other strategic initiatives.

Innovation and Initiative: Develop new online academic programs and develop creative ways to support and engage faculty who teach both online and on campus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE:

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution

Seven or more years of increasingly responsible leadership and supervision that includes oversight of multiple departments/functions, strategic planning, budget development, personnel management, team building, and program development

Successful management of significant projects

Experience developing or leading online programs that includes commitment to teaching excellence and innovation

Experience managing personnel, especially personnel in multiple units, which included defining and evaluating employee performance and addressing personnel conflict.

Demonstrated understanding of the community college role and mission.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity and a demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations that value and respect differences

Systematic examples of collaboration and effective and open communication.

Examples of innovation and initiative in identifying and solving significant problems.

Evidence of interest and skill in creating a shared vision as part of a team of leaders and in generating consensus and buy-in from a variety of stakeholders.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE:

Leadership experience in higher education, preferably community colleges

Four or more years college teaching experience, including online teaching
