The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a clinical science department within the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The primary functions of the department are teaching obstetrics and gynecology to medical students, resident physicians, post graduate students, nurses and other allied health professionals; providing clinical service to the region; and supporting research activities.

Job Duties

The Perinatal Nurse Navigator is an experienced obstetrical nurse who focuses on positively impacting perinatal care, infant mortality, and morbidity in eastern North Carolina by providing quality patient care to high-risk perinatal patients. The nurse navigator provides individualized assistance to specific patients and obstetrical practices by coordinating virtual care (telemedicine) with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists. The nurse navigator will facilitate timely access to care, coordination of referrals, and provide education and support. The nurse navigator will work directly with the practices providing the virtual care and will collaborate closely with the maternal-fetal medicine service.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation

North Carolina Nursing License

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Previous obstetrical experience is preferred along with EPIC experience; candidate must also possess strong written and oral communications skills and be able to work independently.
