The Director of Development functions as the web developer-centric planner for Creative Services projects to successfully execute the University’s mission and branding across all client and internal projects. This role is responsible for recommending techniques and methods for solutions to resolve large-scale, complex problems with regard to the structure and development of websites at the University.

This position reports directly to the Digital Creative Director, Interactive Design and works collaboratively with the Director on defining and executing the direction of the Interactive Design team to best meet University client needs with changing technology. The Assistant Director of Development, who leads the Interactive Design team of web developers in project direction and definition, reports directly to the Director of Development.

What You’ll Have:

  • A. or B.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 8+ years of experience with demonstrated management experience.
  • Experience leading project-based teams as a technical lead and coordinating efforts between departments.
  • Experience leading and directly supervising the work of and career paths of other web developers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience developing WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Extensive knowledge of the WordPress core codebase.
  • Extensive experience with PHP, JavaScript (and jQuery), and HTML and CSS standards.
  • Understanding of computer science algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with or knowledge of scalability issues and practices.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as GitHub.
  • Experience with CSS preprocessors, such as Sass.
  • Experience using taskrunners, such as Grunt.
  • Extensive experience contributing to or writing WordPress plugins.
  • Experience producing unit testing and QA plans.
  • Familiar with development and deployment automation. Understanding of test-driven development.

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud computing platforms.
  • Experience with other frontend technologies or designing.
