North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

This position is a part-time 20 to 40-hour per week position. The position is 100% funded by Henderson County.

Assist ag agents in developing program materials, organizing, and maintaining on-farm research trials, collecting data from trials, and entering data into spreadsheets.

The intern may also work with other agents in Family & Consumer Sciences and 4-H to gain experience in these areas.

Routine office duties such as answering phones, setting up for meetings and helping with office functions may also be required.

Work ScheduleHours set according to class schedule. Approximately 20 hours/week during school year with potential for 40 hours/week during the summer.Other Work/Responsibilities

The intern receives direct supervision from the County Extension Director. Travel within county is sometimes required.

Minimum Experience/Education

Graduation from high school is required. Working toward a degree related to agriculture is also required. Preference will be given to students enrolled at Blue Ridge Community College.

Department Required Skills

The intern must have the ability to work with diverse audiences, connect well with people and be a team player. He/she must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Horticultural background is helpful.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Must be a team member dedicated to supporting a positive and creative work environment.

The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds frequently. The job also requires sustained periods of standing and sitting and occasional periods of kneeling, stooping and reaching. The job occasionally requires exposure to extreme heat and humidity and exposure to the sun.

The person must have effective communication skills and be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Required License or Certification

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required and must be maintained.

In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.
