Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a Student Accounts Advocate to provide advice and counseling to students concerning their accounts and financial responsibilities. Reporting to the VP Enrollment Services/Associate VP Enrollment Services, the Advocate will be responsible for managing a caseload of student accounts along with developing and delivering financial literacy and financial aid awareness programs for students and families.

The Advocate will be directly responsible to work with students needing assistance in developing plans to pay their Trinity bills after all financial aid is applied. The Advocate will not be responsible for financial aid decisions but must understand financial aid thoroughly to counsel students about their options. The Advocate will work collaboratively with Trinity’s teams in Enrollment Services, Academic Affairs and Academic Advising, Student Affairs, Admissions and the Business Office. A strong commitment to work in a team environment is essential, along with excellent oral and written communication skills, a deep understanding of federal financial aid, strong knowledge of financial literacy practices and the ability to create educational programs about financial aid and financial literacy. The Advocate must also be able to work well under pressure, to know how to manage individuals who might get angry or upset when talking about financial obligations, to be a calming presence who can help students solve problems, who can develop creative solutions for tough cases.

The Advocate must have 3-5 progressively responsible years of experience in financial aid, academic advising, student counseling, admissions or related fields in business settings. A master’s degree in a field pertinent to the work is preferred.
