Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This position is responsible for the conduct of cell culture and assist in animal experiments relating to the models of lung injury. Specifically, job duties will include performing biological sample preparation, DNA and/or RNA extraction, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, exposing mice to bacteria, working with bacterial cultures, preparing reagents and buffers, immuno-histochemistry assay, processing of mouse samples as needed, and other experiments as directed by the Principal Investigator. Other responsibilities include data collection, data entry, assistance with maintaining molecular laboratory supplies and stock solutions and communicating results with other members of the lab team.

This is a limited term position with funding through 6/30/2021.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Standard laboratory skills as well as experience with molecular biological techniques. Ability to organize and report data and prepare summaries. General computer knowledge, including the ability to use spreadsheets. Good communication and time management skills as well as the ability to work with multiple labs to complete tasks.

Physical Demands

Position involves frequent movement to various places, occasionally involving operating heavy equipment. The position will involve extensive use of a biosafety cabinet and sitting in place for long periods of time. Lift up to 50lbs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist in laboratory research at the bench that will be used for publications in scientific journals or grant proposal applications. Duties will include cell culture, molecular cloning, RNA/protein expression analysis using real-time PCR, western blotting, or ELISA.

Interpret, manage, and analyze research data. Duties will include data analysis, data interpretation, performing basic statistical tests, and presentations using PowerPoint slides in the laboratory meetings and journal clubs.

Manage mice colonies and necessary equipment/supplies to perform animal research studies. Under supervision, maintenance of mouse colonies including breeding, timed breeding, collection of samples for genotyping, weaning, aging and sexing of pups, and retiring of mouse colonies.

Responsible for inventory of research supplies, chemicals, and equipment maintenance, including interacting with salespersons. The individual is also responsible for ensuring biosafety compliance, enforcing cleanliness, and other laboratories best practices.
