Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise and manage the Stem Cell and Xenograft Core (SCXC) of the University of Pennsylvania. The Core facility is a hybrid core that incorporates both xenotransplantation studies and tissue banking of hematologic malignancies. The Director will oversee a staff of 8-10 individuals. The Director will have primary responsibility for all programmatic and operational issues for the SCXC. The Director will interact with faculty and research sponsors to implement pre-clinical models and facilitate pre-clinical studies including pre-IND studies. The Director will serve as contact for all faculty and research sponsors interested in developing xenotransplantaion studies. The Director will supervise the collection, cryopreservation and distribution of samples from a large tissue bank of samples from patients with hematologic malignancies. This person will oversee all operational issues associated with the animal colony. This person will be responsible for all regulatory (IRB, IACUC, EHRS) compliance and fiscal management of the SCXC.

Master's Degree and 5 to 7 years or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Preferred Ph.D. or equivalent degree and 10 years of experience. Experience with xenotranplantion models including human tumor tissue transplant models is essential. The individual must have detailed knowledge of stem cell biology, translational research and experience with pre-clinical models. Experience in laboratory management including academic experience is necessary. The individual must be a leader capable of working with a diverse constituency of faculty, administrators, staff, regulatory agencies and research sponsors. Proven scientific skills as demonstrated by scientific publications is essential. Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills are necessary. Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices preferred.
