The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia seeks to hire a Post Doctoral Research Associate to join the lab of Dr. Saurabh Kulkarni to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ciliogenesis and how cilia dysfunction leads to diseases like congenital heart diseases, respiratory complications and hydrocephalus, primarily using Xenopus as a model organism. The lab uses multiple cutting-edge tools like CRISPR gene editing techniques, advanced light and electron microscopy, mechanobiology, RNA-seq and Mass Spectrometry.
Candidates will be encouraged to develop new projects and pursue their curiosity. They are also expected to learn new techniques as a part of their training requirement. The Kulkarni lab is situated in a highly interactive department with new state-of-the-art facilities. The role of the person holding this position also includes supervision of undergraduate students, as well as the writing of manuscripts and grants.
Ph.D. in Evolutionary/ Cell/ Developmental Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics or related field is required by the start date of the appointment. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have expertise in biomechanics or biophysics.

This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
