The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia is seeking an inquiring, attentive, and dedicated person interested in moving into an expanding field that supports medical research to improve children’s lives. The Grants and Contracts Specialist will join a department that employs outstanding people, is progressive in its initiatives to develop and support its staff, making it a great place to work.

The Grants and Contracts Specialist will join a supportive, learning-oriented team and will be trained in all aspects of Research Administration.

The duties will include both pre-award and post-award activities for grants and contracts. The successful candidate will compile proposal budgets, assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals and non-funded agreements.

Post Award duties include monitoring the expenditures on grants to ensure compliance, completing financial reconciliations, processing vendor invoices, setting up Labor Distributions, preparing cost transfers and records retention. The successful candidate will resolve questions and support faculty with their grants management.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate their potential and have the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently in a meticulous environment with minimal supervision, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, interact with faculty and staff, negotiate successful resolutions to various situations, and demonstrate attention to detail. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications is required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: At least two years of grant and contract experience.
