Applicant must be able to lift, carry, and handle objects of at least 50 pounds.
Applicant must also be able to work outdoors throughout the year to complete field work, this includes the heat of the summer and occasionally during the cold months of winter.
Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm (37.5 hrs/wk)
During the crop growing season different hours, either earlier start times or later end times, may be necessary to complete research activities.
Occasionally, weekend work will be required. Rarely, holiday work may also be necessary.
This position will be responsible for managing applied forage and grain crop research trials at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton, KY and on-farm. The major responsibilities of this position are to plant, manage, and harvest research trials and prepare samples for analysis. Additional responsibilities will include managing pesticide inventory, equipment maintenance, and animal use and care logs. Occasionally, field equipment may need to be modified to accommodate field research trials. A majority of the workload will occur outdoors in the summer and occasionally winter months and will include lifting, moving and handling bags at least 50 pounds. The position may also require, determining forage allocation, supplemental feeding, and weighing and collecting samples from livestock as defined by experimental protocols. Familiarity with agronomic production systems in KY and livestock, rotational stocking, and temporary fencing is preferred.Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
