The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Tenure-Track, Associate or Full Professor in the department of Kinesiology, with the potential of being appointed as department chair upon hire.  This position is expected to begin in Fall of 2021.  Review of applications will begin immediately, and continue until the position is filled.

The department chair appointment will report to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences.  A faculty only appointment will report to the chair of Kinesiology. 

UNA is a comprehensive, regional, state university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. The University has an enrollment of approximately 8,500 students. The Department of Kinesiology maintains approximately 200 majors in Exercise Science, 100 in Sport and Recreation Management, and approximately 40 across Health and Fitness and Pedagogy. The Department has Master’s programs in Health and Human Performance (approximately 58 majors) and Sport and Recreation Management (approximately 30 majors). The department will launch the institution’s first Ph.D. (Exercise Science and Health Promotion) in fall 2021.

As a faculty member and/or Department Chair, it is expected that the successful candidate will provide/help provide vision for the department in its continued growth, increased national and international visibility, and recruitment efforts, while building on past successes.  Other duties for a department chair appointment will include, but are not limited to; scheduling classes; coordinating student advisement; conducting evaluations of programs, faculty, and staff; and overseeing departmental budgets and activities.

A terminal degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or a related field is required; Evidence of successful college/university-level teaching experience, as well as scholarly and creative accomplishments will be required if selected for an interview; Experience in administration and/or leadership is preferred.
