The Research Technician is a contributor to the execution of specific projects as assigned and is responsible for all aspects of their projects from protocol development through delivery of the scientific product. They should actively participate in determining the course, identifying applicable methods, and validating the protocols within the assigned projects. The Research Technician works collaboratively with lab’s principle investigator, postdoctoral researchers as well as independently on the research projects. Based on his/her analyses, the Research Technician prepares reports and presentations of results obtained through experiments.

Duties & Responsibilities

TheResearch Technician sets up and operates laboratory equipment, preparesreagents and stock solutions, performs in vitro experiments, records andanalyses research data. The Research Technician also helps to assure thevalidity of the results obtained via ensuring the operational condition ofscientific equipment and managing the efficient use of the equipment.

  • Conducts research experiments independently with minimal supervision incollaboration with postdoctoral fellows, research professors, associatedfaculty, and students. Conducts literature searches and maintains an up-to-dateknowledge of all current methods of experimentation through professionalreading assignments.
  • Collaborates on the development of the experimental design, identificationof the appropriate methods, setting up and validation of the experimentalprotocols, making innovative as well as basic measurements.
  • Utilizes knowledge of specific methods and protocols of molecularbiology, biochemistry and cell biology to obtain, analyze, and interpret dataof scientific experimentation.
  • Utilizes a basic understanding of laboratory equipment in order to operateand maintain the equipment to ensure its operational condition and to assurevalidity of the data obtained through experimentation.
  • Maintains accurate records of experimental protocols, obtained data andanalysis performed based on specific experiments for a given project. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained throughexperience required.
  • Minimumof 3 years of relevant experience required.
