The Department of Communication Studies in the School of Communication at Emerson College seeks a tenure track faculty member in the area of Digital Persuasion to join the department at the Boston campus. This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank. The appointment will begin in January 2021 or on August 19, 2021.

Candidates must have completed a terminal degree in communication or a relevant discipline by the time of hire. Successful candidates must also demonstrate potential for productive scholarly research agenda, continuing professional practice, teaching experience in a diverse context with evidence of potential for teaching excellence, and show the ability to work and collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

The successful candidate is expected to: demonstrate the ability to sustain an active research program; provide evidence of successful teaching; and show the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds with a strong commitment to inclusion and social justice.

Candidates are expected to have experience in digital and online strategies for strategic persuasive communication planning and campaigns using knowledge of social media, online content development, and storytelling in the digital age. Desirable expertise areas also include visual rhetoric, mobile communication, user experience design (UX), and search engine optimization (SEO). Preference will be given to candidates who show a background or affinity for the Department's other curricular areas, which include rhetoric, public relations, political communication, social advocacy, sport communication, public diplomacy and esports. Candidates should show a commitment to the pedagogy of diversity and underrepresented communities.

As a member of the department, the candidate will advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, which can include advising student organizations. Supporting the theory-practice mission of the Department of Communication Studies, the candidate will have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning opportunities such as Emerson DC (the College's semester-long program in Washington, DC), Emerson Los Angeles (semester-long program in California), and a myriad of international programs, such as global pathways courses and semester-long study abroad opportunities.
