The Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing at Emerson College seeks applications for adjunct positions for Spring and Summer 2021 to teach courses in digital, magazine, and book publishing. Spring semester runs January 13-May 5, and the two summer sessions run May 17-June 30 and July 3-August 23.

The Department is always open to working with publishing professionals interested in sharing their experience with students in our undergraduate and graduate publishing programs. We are especially interested in connecting with potential instructors for the areas listed below, and also with instructors in any publishing area who are available for in person instruction.

Digital Publishing Classes may include courses in Introduction to Electronic Publishing, Electronic Publishing Overview, Web Development, Creating eBooks for Modern Readers, Metadata, Fundamental of Content Strategy, Creating Electronic Publications for eReaders, and related offerings.

Magazine and book publishing classes may include classes in: Introduction to Book and Magazine Publishing, Magazine Publishing Overview, Book Publishing Overview, Magazine Writing, Book Editing, Copyediting, Marketing and Sales, Publicity, Design and Production, and related offerings.

Please note: Courses may be designed to capitalize upon the candidate's areas of specialization but course materials must address the parameters of the course catalog description.

Experience and Requirements:

  • Professional experience in the industry related to the course content

  • An aptitude for teaching

  • Teaching experience in a professional, academic, or community setting preferred

  • Availability to teach in person classes with some elements of the course online during the Covid-19 pandemic (Please note: The College offers online teaching support.)
