Posting DetailsPosting Number: 0601163 Position Category: Academic Services Professional Job Title: Writing Support Specialist Position Code: 0629 Position Type: Staff Department: Academic Success Unit Nature of Work: This position consists of varied supervisory, coordination, and tutoring duties. The unique needs of each student contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist in managing tutorial flow in our online environment as well as tutoring in Writing in the Writing Center. Success in this position contributes to the successful education of students and to compliance with accreditation standards. Training and Experience: *The Specialist will demonstrate that he/she has general knowledge of the field of writing, tutorial principles, strategic planning strategies, classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems and educational technology. Tutoring students, making timely decision, solving problems, demonstrating interpersonal relationship skills, dealing with the public and being able to communicate well, orally and written, will also be the kind of knowledge required by the Writing specialist. The guidelines for this position include being familiar with University policies and procedures, FERPA, ADA, University System of Georgia policies and procedures, SACS and other accreditation standards and requirements deemed necessary. These guidelines will require judgment, selection and interpretation of application.

*The Specialist will have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in English and/or a related field and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two years. Testing Requirements:Illustrative Examples of Work: The Writing Specialist is responsible for tutoring students, coordinating tutorial flow in the online environment as well as in the Writing Center, and some supervision of student workers. The position may be filled as a 12-month staff position. The Specialist should be knowledgeable of the coursework in others divisions/departments in order to promote smooth interaction among Writing Center and other professors. Staying updated and knowledgeable of the University System of Georgia policies and procedures are also required for this position. He/she should assist the Coordinator in assuring that the center is supervised at all times in order to maintain an environment which is warm, friendly, and conducive for study and tutorial sessions.
